Psalm 139:14 always kind of sneaks up on me when I need the most. It says “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
Day eight to brave goes back to Learning the difference between who I am according to society and who I am according to God’s word and God’s will. Often times we see commercials and ads telling us who we are, what we should do, and how we should be. Social media allows us to add filters to alter the lives in moments we capture around us… But where is the authenticity?
Any of downs brings is seriously real lesson to mind here. That we shouldn’t believe in ourselves, not in the way society says we should. We can step back and take a look at our allies and recognize that we are not someone to be believed in. We mess up and hurt peoples feelings, we care too much about something, but not an enough of others. We are lost, we are imperfect. So then, why should we put our own trust and faith in someone as faulty as ourselves?
The answer is clear: we shouldn’t. There is a “me” that God made and THAT me is worth believing in. God made us on purpose for a purpose. He didn’t make any mistakes, and he sure as heck didn’t start with me. The fact that God doesn’t make mistakes… That makes me feel brave.
The certainty and trust in God’s purpose for me allows me to make mistakes while realizing I am not one. That is where my courage comes from; my hope is yours can come from it too.
Annie F. Downs Points out that we know our own tendencies and fears, just as we know our gifts and hopes. That crossroads…that intersection between fear and hope, is where God sits cheering for us to make a brave choice. “We can be confident and how God made us because his word says we are fearfully and wonderfully made. But we can’t do this life–or be brave–on our own” (19).
It is unclear to me what my purpose is. Many people have told me to: “find my why.” Maybe my why is you. Maybe I’m here to be your sign. Your “get up and move” so to speak.
So here it goes: Get up! Move! Be here now, and just be. Be still. Be alive. Live. Wild. Free. Bravely.
I’m here to remind you-God doesn’t make mistakes. You are so freakin loved and so freaking forgiven. Allow yourself to soak in that peace and that truth. And when you’re finished soaking, allow someone else to soak it in.
Follow your passion. You are not a mistake.
